Six transparent steps from fabric selection to white-glove delivery
At Elvis Upholstery & Draperies, transparency is part of our service. We want every client to understand exactly how their piece is being made, the sequence of steps, the materials being used, and the decisions being made at each stage. The process below describes how we manufacture custom furniture and execute reupholstery projects from the first consultation to final delivery.
The process begins in our showroom, where you choose the style of the furniture and select your fabric from over 30,000 swatches in our own collection. Our team guides every decision, from fabric type and performance rating to colour, texture, and pattern matching. We also visit you in-home for drapery and window treatment consultations.
For custom furniture, the frame is cut from kiln-dried solid hardwood and assembled by hand. For reupholstery, the existing piece is stripped completely and every joint, dowel, and rail is inspected. Any structural repairs (re-gluing, tightening, replacing broken corner blocks) are completed before upholstery begins. A weak frame defeats even the finest fabric.
Coil springs or sinuous springs are added to the frame and tied or clipped to specification. High-density foam is then cut by hand to the precise shape of each seat, back, and arm element. Foam is wrapped in Dacron batting to create that signature soft, rounded profile. Every foam specification (density, ILD rating) is matched to the piece's use case and your comfort preference.
The inside of the piece is upholstered first (arms, inside back, inside wings) leaving the outside back open for access. Fabric is cut with pattern repeats precisely planned, pulled to consistent tension, and stapled or hand-tacked along every rail. Welt cord seams are sewn and pressed. Any tufting or channel stitching is executed at this stage.
After the cushions are made, we call you to approve the comfort level and see the inner workings of the piece before it is closed up. This is our quality assurance step, an opportunity for you to feel the seat depth, the cushion firmness, and the overall proportions before final completion. We don't close a piece until you're satisfied.
Following your approval, the outside back is upholstered, all finishing details are applied (nailhead trim, decorative legs, contrast welt, buttons) and the piece is inspected a final time. We then arrange delivery or pickup. For larger commissions, we offer white-glove delivery and placement throughout the First Coast and Northeast Florida.

What changes is the scale and complexity, the commitment to quality never does. Every piece that leaves our Atlantic Beach workshop has been inspected against our standards, approved by you, and delivered with care.
